Facebook is always coming up with new and nifty content for their site. A little while back, Facebook Places was released. Not too long ago they added the app. dashboard, the new groups addition and the ability ot request information. Now, it’s Facebook Deals.
Simply put, people are offered coupons from certain stores and restaurants where they are located. When they are about to check into an area, they look for a yellow square next to the places name. If the square is present, there’s a deal. They check in to the location. Once they have the coupon on the screen, all they need to do is present it and BAM! they’ve got a deal!
This is great for businesses, because it offers people an additional reason to go visit their venue. Now, the big question… why is it different than Specials on Foursquare? From what I’ve seen, it’s really not… but, for avid Facebook users who have the Places app. on their phone, it’s a one stop shop (social media site, geoLoX tool and coupons)! Why close out of Facebook and visit another app. if you can stay in one place and accomplish the same goal?
I think this is great promotional space for businesses and a great opportunity for people in this economy! Facebook is on a roll with new roll-outs, and I think we can only expect better things to come. Thoughts / opinions on the product?
